Professor Randi B. SILVER, Associate Dean of Weill Cornell Medical College (Cornell University) visited our university and signed the Memorandum of Agreement with us on April 23, 2018. Professor Hua YAN, President of TMU, warmly received the delegation. Professor Chunshui YU, Vice President of TMU, along with relevant leaders from TMU Cancer Hospital, School of Basic Medical Sciences, and International Exchange and Cooperation Department, attended the meeting and signing ceremony.
President Yan extended a warm welcome to Professor Silver and Professor Pengbo ZHOU for the visit. Vice President Chunshui YU introduced some major achievements in TMU’s medical teaching, research and clinical practice in recent years as well as our future plan. President Yan gave a positive affirmation on the long-term cooperation between Weill Cornell Medical College and TMU, and spoke highly of the contribution Professor Zhou had made to promote inter-institutional cooperation. Later on, Professor Silver highly praised the rapid development of our university and the sound cooperative relations. Then, she introduced the advanced idea of systematically integrating basic research, clinical practice and translational medicine. Professor Silver attached great importance to the cooperation with TMU, hoping to expand and enrich concrete cooperation with our university. The two parties had an in-depth discussion concerning undergraduate short-term visiting, joint cultivation of graduate students, training of teachers, and scientific research cooperation as well.
After the detailed discussion, the Memorandum of Agreement was formally signed by the two leaders.
Following the signing ceremony, the delegation visited Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital, as well as the Basic Medical Research Center.
In the afternoon, Professor Silver delivered a seminar entitled “Mast Cells and Neonatal Lung Disease” in the “Academic Forum by Overseas Distinguished Professors”. Around 100 teachers and students attended the lecture and interacted with Professor Silver by asking quality questions.
Cornell University is a world famous private research-type university, and a member of the Ivy League. According to the 2018 QS World University Ranking, Cornell University ranks the 14th worldwide. Up till 2017, 56 Nobel laureates were from this university.
Our university has a good collaborative relationship with Cornell University with a long history. It is expected that the signing of this cooperation agreement will further strengthen the collaboration between the two sides on student and teacher exchange, as well as joint scientific research. Additionally, it will further promote the internationalization of Tianjin Medical University.
